The origin of Gianduja

Did you know that the Gianduja originates in the Piedmont region of Italy which is famous for the quality of its hazelnuts?  Cafarelle invented this recipe in 1865 at carnival time, and had the delicacies distributed among the crowd by the local hero, Gian d'la Duja, (which translates as John the pitcher).

The delicacy was named as a tribute to this local hero.
